People who use assistive technologies are strongly loyal to companies that make it easy for them to do business online. Usablenet Accessibility Products and Services provide solutions for companies to ensure their Sites and Apps are both accessible to use, and conform with guidelines and any relevant legislation.

Usablenet combines unique technology, people and processes to provide the quickest and most cost effective way for companies to achieve this. Over the course of 15 years we have worked with customers in varying industries, such as universities, retail and travel to deliver accessible sites and apps.

Accessibility should be part of every digital strategy. Our accessibility solutions are designed to ensure companies improve compliance with web accessibility standards, such as ADA, Section 508 and WCAG.

Usablenet Accessibility Products and Services

Usablenet supports a wide range of companies seeking to ensure their web and mobile experiences are accessible and meet WCAG 2.0 AA standards through a range of products and consulting services. We provide Accessibility products and service to carriers such as American Airlines and Virgin America, along with companies such as Amtrak, MTA, The Container Store, Medco, Starwood and more.

a. Usablenet Accessibility Audit

We conduct an audit of your website to check the current level of accessibility and the actions that should be taken for WCAG compliance. This service includes a full assessment of your website based on Web Accessibility Standards (WCAG 2.0 AA) by experienced developers, and is not just an automated online evaluation. It also includes a second, follow-up review after the site has been updated to be accessible, and we issue a statement of the work that has been completed.  We also offer developer level helpdesk support.

b. Accessibility User Testing

In support of an overall successful accessibility strategy and to conform to any legal requirements to involve users with disabilities, Usablenet conducts Usability testing with representative members of the disability community such as Visual, Auditory, Tactile and Cognitive. A Testing Report will follow the completion of the research, detailing the findings of the usability testing.

c. Usablenet Assistive:

We build an accessible view of your website that complies fully with WCAG 2.0 AA standard. Usablenet has over 15 years’ experience in making sites accessible. We have over 15 years’ experience in web accessibility, and we are able to deliver a conforming alternate view of your website within weeks! Usablenet Assistive has limited impact on your IT resources, and there is no need to recode or reformat your core website. The accessible view of the site is fully functional, always current, and delivers and enhanced experience for all types of users with disabilities.

Amtrak has 21,000 route miles and operates more than 300 trains each day — at speeds up to 150 mph — to more than 500 destinations.

Amtrak’s assistive view, built by Usablenet, is designed specifically to support its riders with visual, auditory, motor, or learning impairments. Travelers with disabilities often experience difficulty accessing and processing information in certain formats and have trouble completing the booking transaction. In addition, they encounter mobility limitations due to device constraints and outdated equipment.

Amtrak’s Assistive view helps alleviate some of the biggest hindrances by:

  • Implementing a web accessible view with a variety of reading options for clarity
  • Outlining a comprehensive step-by-step browsing and booking process
  • Building in readily available information and support lines
  • Including the opportunity to tailor customizable resources for added assistance on travel day.

Amtrak’s full array of social media accounts are linked directly, ensuring that any user can readily connect with the company. The site also features a page called “Passengers with a Disability: Assistance,” which provides peace of mind in advance of travel day. On this page users may choose from a list to ensure that special accommodations are prepared in advance and are ready when they need them.

Amtrak chose Usablenet to build the assistive view because of Usablenet’s roots in usability and its track record in designing usable, streamlined, and intuitive experiences.
